Liz Essary has over a decade of experience as an interpreter in healthcare, legal, and conference settings. In 2012, she received national CERTIFIED HEALTHCARE INTERPRETER™ certification through the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI-Spanish), and in 2013 she was certified through the Indiana Supreme Court Interpreter Certification program.
Liz is an accredited interpreter trainer through the CCHI Continuing Education Accreditation Program, and was licensed to teach Bridging the Gap in 2009. In 2013, she served as an item writer and subject matter expert for CCHI’s written exam. From 2011 to 2015, she served as Language Services Supervisor at Indiana University Health Academic Health Center, where she worked to facilitate access to quality language services in the hospital setting. Liz has written and presented extensively on language access, quality in interpreter services, and working effectively with interpreters. Liz holds a B.A. in Spanish from Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis and a Master of Conference Interpreting from York University’s Glendon School of Translation. She has lived and studied in Spain, France, Costa Rica, Toronto. She’s currently a freelance interpreter and interpreter trainer based out of Indianapolis.
